Welcome to Doc Zalo's Practice in the dark underworld of the not too far off future. I personally took this project from concept to completion and it is also the first environment that I have created using a PBR workflow.

The prompt given for this project was a "Specialty Food Shop" fitting within 10x10 meters and designed for a third-person top-down style camera angle.

Here is a portion of the narrative that I created for the setting and character that this environment is built around:
In the not so far off future where the global economy has tanked and populations have massed into megacities where only a few have the privilege to reside above the smog line. The rest of the denizens reside in the shadows of the superstructures that tower above them or worse, in the lawless underground where even the private military police forces dare not venture.
At this level of poverty, it is unlikely that locals have ever seen traditional solid food sources. Instead, they receive the baseline minimal nutrition they need to survive from cocktails of chemicals and supplements that they ingest directly.

In the undercity where even the shadows of the superstructures fail to reach, vendors like Doc Zalo do their business. His day-to-day clientele is the average person who muddles their way through a meager life and comes in for their essentials, which are dispensed through automated machines and they go on with their business. But for the few customers who look for more in this world beneath the reaches of the law, he has something of far more interest than daily nutrition.

At one point in his life, Doc Zalo was an aspiring medical professional. After his clients found out about some of his more questionable experiments he escaped to the underworld where he could further his practices without fear of repercussion.
